So why does it seem as if she might have been born to play the iconic Wicked Witch of the West in “Wicked,” Jon M. Chu’s musical movie adaptation of author Gregory Maguire’s 1995 “Wizard of Oz” prequel novel and its 2003 Broadway musical?

Wicked” actress Cynthia Erivo clearly has a thing for playing characters who fly. In an interview at the National Board of Review Awards Gala, Erivo was asked what “dream role” she’s manifesting for her future.

While on the red carpet of the event, where Wicked won Best Film, Erivo didn’t bat an eye over her pick for the next “dream role”. While Erivo is still best known for her work in Broadway and musical theatre, she’s putting it out in the universe that she would love to join the Marvel universe to play Ororo Munroe, a.k.a. Storm.

Whether it’s Elphaba in “Wicked” or Celie in “The Color Purple,” the star doesn’t choose parts “frivolously”; she wants roles that stay with viewers.

I really want to play Storm,” Erivo revealed on the carpet for the National Board of Review Awards Gala in New York City. The actress went on to say that she believes the popular X-Men character hasn’t yet been explored as deeply onscreen as she deserves to be.
