Areas of Los Angeles County in Southern California are under mandatory evacuation orders following multiple fires that have started.

Tens of thousands of Southern Californians were ordered to evacuate their homes after out-of-control wildfires engulfed several parts of the Los Angeles area.

Though the Palisades and Eaton fires are smaller, they rank high in structures burned. Combined, they would equal the second-most destructive California wildfire in history, with more than 9,000 structures burned, according to early Cal Fire estimates. A more detailed analysis of the total number of destroyed structures is still underway.

Tom Hanks’ $26 million Pacific Palisades home narrowly escaped wildfire damage, while neighboring properties burned. The Los Angeles wildfires have claimed 16 lives, destroyed 12,000 structures, and caused up to $150 billion in losses.
