Members of both parties have criticized the Republican candidate for challenging certain voting laws after the election had been held.

The board said the newly approved IDs include student IDs and employee IDs for educational institutions, some county and local governments, and charter schools.

The State Board of Elections has approved nearly 100 student and employee identification cards that can be used in the upcoming 2025 municipal elections and the 2026 primary and general elections in North Carolina. Gov. Josh Stein (D-NC) celebrated the decision affirming his power over the board, arguing the court declared "the legislature’s power grab unconstitutional."
