Louisiana lawmakers push bills to ban foreign donations in elections and ballot measures, aiming to close a major election security loophole.

Louisiana’s new closed primaries begin next April. State officials are backing a change to dissolve the Independent Party in a bid to avoid voter confusion.

The term limit discussion continues as two ballot measures address the issue in the upcoming May 3 election for Bossier Parish residents.

On election day, the polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Ballot propositions and runoff races for five of the Baton Rouge-area parishes are listed below. To levy a property tax of 15 mills, estimated to generate $26,325 a year, to maintain all public infrastructure, including streets, drainage, bridges and culverts, within the district.

Early voting for Louisiana’s May 3 Municipal General Election will begin Saturday, April 19. Voters in East Baton Rouge will also choose a new state representative in a Special Primary Election. Early voting will last through Saturday, April 26.

The May 3rd Municipal General and Special Primary Election is just a few weeks away. Runoff elections are being held in some parishes to finish races that started in March. Special elections will help to fill vacancies. Local propositions like millages, tax changes and city charter amendments will be on the ballot.

House District 67 covers Gardere and Riverbend in the south, the LSU campus and Old South Baton Rouge, as well as Mid City and North Baton Rouge.

Gov. Jeff Landry is supporting a proposal that would allow his appointed director to the Louisiana Racing Commission to continue owning racehorses. The proposed exception is included in House Bill 397,
