The order will rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, and Mount Denali to Mount McKinley, which was the official name recognized by the federal government from 1917 until 2015.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has already embraced the change. He cited the name in an executive order this week attributing inclement winter weather to “low pressure moving across the Gulf of America.”

“If we are going to rename things … this is the move,” Abbott wrote on X.
