CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Big Four at the back end of the Guardians’ bullpen remain intact, but beyond Emmanuel Clase, Tim Herrin, Cade Smith and Hunter Gaddis there have been big changes this offseason.
According to multiple reports, including MLB insider Jeff Passan, the Guardians and Sewald agreed to a 1-year deal worth $7 million guaranteed. The deal also includes a mutual option for the 2026 season worth $10 million (or a $1 million buyout if both sides agree to part ways).
An outstanding defensive infielder, Gabriel Arias may get a chance to initially win the second base job for the Guardians.
As it currently stands, Cleveland's payroll sits at $97,387,203. To put this in context, the Guardians finished the 2024 season with a payroll of $143,865,037, making this a difference of -$46,478,014. (All numbers are per BrooksGate on X .)
