SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — At long last, San Diego received its first significant rainfall — and snow — in months over the weekend. The precipitation, which was brought on by a cold low pressure system, was a much-needed break from stubborn arid conditions primed for potentially erratic fire behavior.
Rain causes rise in bacteria at San Diego beaches
A general rain advisory was issued, and beachgoers were warned that rain can cause runoff which raises bacteria levels in ocean and bay waters, according to the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality. Swimming, surfing and diving should be avoided during rain and for 72 hours afterward, the department said.
Some areas in Southern California, a region plagued by drought conditions, saw more than inch of rain this weekend.
