A team of forest rangers in New York state have rescued a moose who became trapped in an icy lake. New York conservation officials say a passerby reported seeing the moose fall through into the lake in a forested area near the Vermont border,

New York conservation officials helped pull off an amazing rescue on Thursday after they worked together to get an adult moose out of a very precarious situation. See the rescue in the video above Members of the New York State Environmental Conservation Police were called to Lake Abenakee in the town of Indian Lake on Thursday after a person saw a moose fall through the ice.

Police called in the help of trained DEC staff to get the moose out of the water. DEC Rangers Evan Nahor and Matt Savarie used jet sleds to keep themselves from falling through the ice as they cut a passage through the ice from where the moose fell into the water to the shore.

"There’s no training manual on how to get a moose out of the ice," said one of the DEC officers involved in the rescue.

According to local authorities, a bull moose was successfully rescued after falling through the ice at Lake Abanakee on January 16.
