Admiral Kevin Lunday will serve as acting U.S. Coast Guard Commandant, replacing Fagan, the first woman to lead a branch of the U.S. military.

The firing comes amid Trump’s pledge to reshape the U.S. military and rid the nation of what he calls “woke” generals.

The commandant of the US Coast Guard — who once called Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) an “operational imperative” — was terminated Tuesday over lagging recruitment
