The prime minister has addressed the nation after the government announced an inquiry into state failings to prevent the Southport attack.

"It's going to take a long while for Southport to properly get its head around what's happened, and why it happened, and to move on from that. "It is going to be really prevalent in people's minds now until we get some answers.
