After taking two years away from hockey, Jonathan Toews is still considering a return to the NHL. The former Chicago Blackhawks captain has been dealing with chronic inflammatory response syndrome (CIRS) and long-term COVID-19, which took a toll on Toews at the turn of the decade.

Since November of 2023, however, the chat surrounding this matchup has revolved around Patrick Kane who now plays for the Wings after his legendary tenure with the Hawks. He is always going to get attention before and after these games which is warranted considering he is one of the greatest to ever put on a Chicago sweater in any sport.
